Ockham Hollow
Working horses, a country village, and a Sunday worth dressing for.
Ockham Hollow lies a little way off the railway. Reuben Tapp and his daughter Martha belong to a world of carrying, carting and horses known by name.
On the Sunday after harvest supper, the village holds its Turnout in the Glebe field. Bracken and Dolly are among the horses made ready for the occasion. There are ribbons and rosettes, but nobody wins anything.
The day is an opportunity to look properly at the animals that do the work through the rest of the year. Follow the preparations, then stay for the gathering beside the church.
