Before you settle in
A bell from Hobday’s foundry is bound for St Hilda’s. Pip accompanies it, joining Ada Brimble aboard Patience for a journey that follows an old custom of carrying new bells by water.
Marigold works the towpath while locks, bridges and the tunnel set the pace. There are meals in the cabin, people whose work keeps the canal moving, and a destination up through the orchard at Little Tallowmere.
