Clara Mallowdene
Dressmaker across the Passage from Ambrose’s shop.
Look closer at the illustration ↗Clara’s work is on the other side of the street from Ambrose’s bench. Clothes and shoes pass through neighbouring hands, and the people making them have lives beyond their shops.
An evening at the Three Lanterns brings Clara and Ambrose into a different kind of company. There is music, conversation and a floor to dance on before the walk home.
Clara also sends cleaning and dyeing work up the Passage to the Quennells. A finished gown can carry the work of several neighbours before its owner puts it on.
