Amberwick
Passage
Follow the lamps along the cobbles.
Bellweather & Sons is just around the bend.
Amberwick Passage
The Passage begins between two worn stone pillars and bends downhill towards the river. Jonah Fenn knows its lamps, its draughts and the people who are likely to be at their windows when he comes past.
There is Hollowell’s chemist at the bend, Bellweather & Sons beside the bakery, Ambrose’s cobbler’s shop and Clara’s dressmaking shop across from it. Further along is Miss Wren’s bow-windowed bookshop. The street has enough work going on to keep an evening interesting.
At the bottom, the Old Gentleman stands above the stone steps to the river lane. It is the oldest lamp on the round, with a doubtful gas pipe and a name inherited from an earlier lamplighter.
