Louisa Thistleby
Beatrice's sister, with a plum-coloured hat and another attempt at the little boat game in mind.
Look closer at the illustration ↗Louisa finds the boat game in the seaside arcade while Beatrice is buying postcards. By supper she has put on her hat before finishing her pudding: she intends to bring the little blue boat into its painted harbour.
The wheel takes practice. Louisa learns that its movement reaches the boat a little later than she expects, then offers Beatrice one of the remaining pennies. There is time for the boats and for the musicians her sister wants to hear.
At the Copper Dormouse, after a journey interrupted by snow, it is Louisa's turn to choose a bed. She takes the window so she can see the orchard in the morning, and leaves the warmer place by the fire for Beatrice.
