Miss Wren’s bookshop

A bow window full of books, and a voice reading from the room above.

Further down Amberwick Passage, Miss Wren’s bow window bulges over the pavement. Books stand with their spines towards the street, some new and upright, most older and leaning. A little card promises an opening at ten, with half past offered underneath as another possibility.

Upstairs, Miss Wren reads aloud to herself, her cat and, when the window is open, anyone passing below. Jonah stops here to relight the wall lamp on wet evenings. On one of those rounds, a basket comes down on a string with three twists of homemade toffee inside.
